The 12 Houses of Astrology

If you’ve ever felt curious about astrology or wondered what your birth chart could reveal about your life, exploring the 12 Houses of Astrology is a great place to start. Each of the 12 Houses corresponds to a different area of life, from relationships and careers to creativity and spirituality.

By understanding the significance of each house in your birth chart, you can gain deeper insight into your personality, strengths, and challenges, and find greater meaning and purpose in your life.

The 12 houses are linked with a particular zodiac sign, and they flow counterclockwise in a 360-degree circle divided into 12 segments. The planets act out their roles based on the zodiac sign they correspond with.

The first house marks the beginning of the zodiac wheel, positioned at what would be the 9 o’clock mark on a clock face. From there, we journey around the wheel in a counterclockwise direction, representing the progression of our soul’s evolution from the personal (1st house) to the interpersonal and transpersonal (12th house).

The 12 houses are divided into personal and interpersonal houses.

The personal houses

The first six houses of the 12 houses in the horoscope are called the “personal houses” as they govern daily life, community, and family themes. These personal houses focus on individuality, daily environments, siblings, peers, parents, and self-expression. Those with numerous planets in these houses may have difficulty leaving their comfort zones or maintaining nostalgic memories from childhood.

The interpersonal houses

The last six zodiac houses of the 12 houses, called the “interpersonal houses,” govern relationships, joint ventures, travel, career, society, spirituality, and end-of-life transition. A person with many planets in these houses may prioritize career and forming new connections while moving on from the past. It’s important to note that each person has all 12 houses in their birth chart, although not necessarily with a planet in each.
